Question 1135761: A boat takes 5 hours to go 25 miles upstream. It can go 50 miles downstream in the same time. Find the rate of the current and the rate of the boat in still water.
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
upstream speed against the current, s-c, is 5 mph
downstream it goes 10 mph, and that is s+c, where s is speed in still water and c the current
if the two are added
2s=15
x=7.5 mph in still water
c=2.5 mph current
