Question 1135492: Two types of electromechanical carburetors are being assembled and tested. Each of the first type requires 15 minutes of assembly time and 5 minutes of testing time. Each of the second type requires 12 minutes of assembly time and 8 minutes of testing time. If 359 minutes of assembly time and 142 minutes of testing time are available, how many of the second type can be assembled and tested if all the time is used?

The problem REQUIRES to find integer non-negative numbers x and y satisfying to the system of 2 equations in 2 unknowns


15x + 12y = 359    (assembly time)
 5x +  8y = 142    (testing time)


The x-solution to this system is (Cramer's rule)


    x =  = 19.467


which IS NOT an integer.  // I even will not spend my time to calculate y.


SO, THE PROBLEM HAS NO SOLUTION in integer numbers.     ANSWER
