Question 1131885: I need help solving this problem, "After driving at a certain speed for 5 hours Dave realizes that he could have covered the same distance in 3 hours if he had driven 22 mph faster. What distance did he travel during the 5 hour trip?"
Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
rate * time = distance
:
let r be Dave's initial rate and d be the distance of Dave's trip
:
r * 5 = d
:
(r+22) * 3 = d
:
5r = 3 * (r+22)
:
5r = 3r +66
:
2r = 66
:
r = 33
:
********************************
33 * 5 = 165
:
he traveled 165 miles in 5 hours
