.
Let d be that distance.

Then you have this "time equation" from the condition

 -  =   of an hour.

To solve it, multiply both sides by 20. You will get

5d - 4d = 10

d = 10.

Answer. The distance between your house and office is 10 kilometers.

Answer by addingup(3677)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
30 minutes = 1/2 hour, or 0.5 hour
d = 5(t)
d = 4(t + 0.5)
.
5t = 4(t + 0.5)
5t = 4t + 2
t = 2
.
d = 5t = 5(2) = 10 km

Check:
5(2) = 10
and
4(2+0.5) = 10 Correct
