Question 1129065: Daniel left school traveling toward the dump four hours before Kayla. Kayla traveled in the opposite direction going 30 mph faster than normal Daniel for one hour after which time they were 300 mi. apart. How fast did Daniel travel?
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Daniel's speed is x, and distance is x*time, where time is 4 hours before Kayla plus one more hour for 5 hours and a distance of 5x mi
Kayla's speed is x+30 for a distance of x+30 miles in 1 hour
so 5x+x+30=300
6x=270
x=45 mph Daniel, 180 miles in 4 hours and 225 miles altogether.
x+30=75 mph Kayla and the sum of the two is 300 miles
Daniel traveled 45 mph
