u + v = 3   miles per hour

u - v = 1.5  miles per hour.

-------------------------------------Add the two equations.


Answer.  The bird's air speed u = 2.25 miles per hour.

         The wind speed       v = 0.75 mph.

Solved.

I don't think any birds fly at such a low air speed.
