Question 1120098: Pls solve the following algebraic equations; 1. A man walks for 2 hrs at 6 km/h. He then cycled for a certain speed at16km/h. If he travelled 36 km altogether, for how many hours did he cycle? 2. A sum of #244 is made up of 10-naira notes and 1-naira coins. There are six times as many naira notes as there are naira coins. Find the number of 10-naira notes. 3. Anna has#30 and Ojo has#186. If Anna saves #5 a day and Ojo spends #7 day, after how many days will they have equal amounts?
Answer by htmentor(1343)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. Distance walked = 6 km/h * 2 h = 12 km
Distance cycled = 36 - 12 = 24 km
The time cycled = 24 km/(16 km/h) = 1.5 h
2. Let x = the number of coins. Thus the number of notes = 6x
The total amount = 244 = 6x*10 + x = 61x
Thus x = 4
The number of coins = 4, number of notes = 24
3. Let d = the number of days
Anna's amount = 30 + 5d
Ojo's amount = 186 - 7d
Set the two amounts equal:
30 + 5d = 186 - 7d
Solving for d, we get 12d = 156 -> d = 13
