The van leaves Town X for Town Y, and the bus leaves for Town Y from Town X?
From what I've read, both left from TOWN X and headed to TOWN Y. Is that what you meant? I don't think so!!
From what you're saying, both left TOWN X, and if so, that's the only time they'd be "together." You need to change this!!

Travelling at a constant rate of speed.
==================
There is no "rate of speed"
---
There's rate, and there's speed.
