1 gallon per 24 miles
2y gallons=48y miles, multiplying both sides by 2y
So if it is 192 miles, 48y=192, y=4
and that would be 8 gallons.

    The distance between towns A and B is  (2y) gallons * 24 miles per gallon = 48*y miles.
