Your "time" equation for the unknown distance d (in miles) is

 +  =    hours   (notice  =  !)

To solve it, multiply both sides by 48. You will get

8d + 3d = 5*24,

11d = 120  ====>  d =  =  miles.

Answer. The distance under the question is miles.

                   SPEED       TIME         DISTANCE
RUNto               6                     d

RIDEback           16                    d

Total

Solve for d.
