             SPEED TIME DISTANCE
WALK 4 d
RIDE 8 d
ALL

Distance walked is the same as distance bike-ridden.

The walking speed is half the bicycling speed, so twice as much time is spent walking as bicycling.
The total time was 45 minutes, so 30 minutes was spent walking and 15 minutes was spent bicycling.
30 minutes (half an hour) at 4mph equals 2 miles.

He walked 2 miles.
