Let n be Jessie's speed on her way to her parents. Then her speed back home would be n-9. So:
60/n + 60/n-9=3
60(n-9)+60n=3nē-27n
3nē-147n+540=0
nē-49n+180=0
(n-45)(n-4)=0
n=45 or 4
