Let d be the distance of the race. Then:
d/10+d/2=3
d+5d=30
6d=30
d=5
Andrea runs for 1/2 an hour at 10 mph, and walks 2-1/2 hours at 2 mph, so she should plan to spend 2-1/2 hours walking back. ☺☺☺☺
