Question 1076158: The first plane is traveling 2.5 times as fast as the second plane. After traveling in the same direction for 5 hours, they are 735 miles apart. What is the average speed of each plane?
Answer by jorel1380(3719) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let n be the speed of the second plane. Then the speed of the first plane is 2.5n. So:
5(2.5)n-5n=735
7.5n=735
n=98
The 2nd plane averages 98 mph; the first plane averages 245 mph. ☺☺☺☺
