Question 1075001: an airplane takes 5 hours to travel a distance of 4200 miles with the wind. The return trip take 6 hours against the wind. Find the speed of the plane in still air and speed of the wind.
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
speed * time=distance
plane is traveling with the wind at 4200/5=840
s+w=840; on the way back it is 4200/6=700
s-w=700. Add the two
2s=1540
s=770 mph is speed of plane in still air
w=70 mph speed of wind.
