Question 1074663: Pablo spends 2 hours for an upcoming race. He runs full speed at 9 miles per hour for the race distance; then he walks back to his starting point at 2.5 miles per hour. How long does he spend walking? How long does he spend running?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
LET X=THE TIME RUN AT FULL SPEED; therefore the distance run is 9x.
return distance is 2.5*(2-x); the total time is x+(2-x)=2
distances are the same
9x=2.5(2-x)
9x=5-2.5x
11.5x=5
x=5/11.5=0.435 hours running, distance is 9*0.435=3.915 miles
2-x=1.565 hours walking; distance is 3.913 miles, which is equal given rounding.
