how fast is joe walking?

if they meet in the middle in 4 hours, than each has been talking for 4 hours.

rate * time= distance.

jill walks at 1.5 km per hour for 4 hours.
total distance she travels is 6 km.
6 from 14 is 8 km.

joe must have walked 8 km in 4 hours.

rate * time = distance.

for joe, this becomes rate * 4 = 8
solve for rate to get rate = 2.

joe walks at the rate of 2 km per hour.

jill walks at 1.5km per hour for 4 hours towards joe.
joe walks at 2 km per hour for 4 hours towards jill.
they meet in the middle when jill has talked 6 km and joe has walked 8 km.
