Question 1057910: Two planes just took off from St. Louis, MO. The first plane is traveling 1.5 times as fast as the second plane. After traveling in the same direction for 7 hours, they are 367.5 miles apart. What is the average speed of each plane? (Hint: Since they are traveling in the same direction, the distance between them will be the difference of their distances.)

Let s be the speed of the slower plane. Then the faster plane is 1.5s. So:
7(1.5s)-7s=367.5
3.5s=367.5
s=105
The slower plane goes 105 mph; the faster one goes 157.5 mph. o☺☺☺
