Question 1057908: Two planes just took off from St. Louis, MO. The first plane is traveling 1.5 times as fast as the second plane. After traveling in the same direction for 7 hours, they are 367.5 miles apart. What is the average speed of each plane?
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
speed of second plane is x mph
speed of first plane is 1.5x mph
After 7 hours, plane 1 has gone 7x miles, and plane 2 10.5 x miles
That is a difference of 3.5x and that is 367.5 miles
Therefore x is 105 mph plane 1
1.5 x is 157.5 mph
After 7 hours, it is 735 miles for plane 1 and 1102.5 miles for plane 2. ANSWER
That is a difference of 367.5 miles.
