I've tried using a formula for this equation. 30=v70 and solve. But I'm not so sure if my calculation is correct.
Problem:
A child was struck by a car in a crosswalk. The driver of the car had slammed on his brakes and left visible skid marks on the pavement. He told the police he had been driving at 30 miles per hour. The police know that the length of skid marks, L, (when brakes are applied) varies directly as the square of speed of the car v, and that at 40 miles per hour, skid marks would be 70 feet long. If the man is telling the truth, how long would the skid marks be?

L=kv^2
70=k*40^2=1600k
k=7/160
use in second part
L=(7/160)*900=6300/160
L=39.375 feet.
