Martina leaves home at 9 a.m., bicycling at a rate of 24 mi/h. Two hours later, John leaves, driving at a rate of 48 mi/h. At what time will john catch up with martina.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Answer. At 1:00 pm.
Solution
John will catch Martina in 2 hours after his start:
time =  =  = 2 hours.
Here 2*24 is the distance between them at 11:00 am when John start his move.
The difference (48-24) in the denominator is their relative speed.
