Question 1045817: Suppose that during a test drive of two cars, one car travels 135 miles in the same time that the second car travels 100 miles. If the speed of one car is 14 miles per hour faster than the speed of the second car, find the speed of both cars.

Let r be the rate of the slower car. Then:
100/r=135/(r+14)
135r=100r+1400
35r=1400
r=40
The slower car goes 40 mph; the faster one goes 54 mph. ☺☺☺☺

This one is the exact SAME FORM of problem as the other one you posted. The solution works in the same way. Do you have more example problems that fit this same form? You can completely generalize using ALL VARIABLES and solve that. You will then have FORMULAS to evaluate for all examples of this form of problem.
