.
Mr. Fisher travels from Boise, Idaho, toward Casper, Wyoming, at a rate of 56 mi/hr. Mr. Collins leaves Casper for Boise
at the same time, traveling at 64 mi/hr. If the cities are 658 mi apart, how long will it be before the two men meet?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How long" = = hours.
Bad numbers? - Really bad.
The two cars move toward each other with the relative speed 56 + 64 = 120 miles per hour or 2 miles per minute. Hence
"How long" = minutes = 329 minutes = 5 hours and 29 minutes.
Much better.
Let time to meet be T
Then we get the following DISTANCE equation: 56T + 64T = 658
120T = 658
T, or time taken to meet = , or
