Question 103228: Please help me! Thank you.
This is from a worksheet:
Crew A and Crew B are digging a tunnel. Crew A starts at the west end and digs at a rate of 9 meters a day. Crew B starts 2 days later at the east end at the rate of 12 meters per day. How many days will it take for both crews to dig the same number of meters? The length of the tunnel is to be 2118 meters. How many days does it take to dig the tunnel from when Crew A starts?

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x=time for equal distance ... 9x=12(x-2) ... 9x=12x-24 ... -3x=-24 ... x=8

let y=time for completion ... 9y+12(y-2)=2118 ... 9y+12y-24=2118 ... 21y=2142 ... y=102
