They are separating at 4+6 = 10 miles per hour.
Time = distance / rate = 8 miles / 10 mph = .8 hours = 48 minutes

Think of one of them as standing still.
Think of the other one moving at the sum
of their speeds.
Let = time in hrs for them to be 8 mi apart
They will be 8 mi apart in 48 min
