405 / 8.2 = 49.3902439

i would say roughly 50 miles per hour would be a good ball park estimate.

you could be a stickler and say 49.39 miles per hour, or 49. 4 miles per hour, or 49 miles per hour, but 50 is a lot easier to remember and is close enough to be considered accurate.

50/49.3902439 is equal to 1.012345679 which is roughly 1% higher than the detailed estimate.

that's pretty close.

50 miles per hour would have taken 8.1 hour rather than 8.2.

that's a tenth of an hour difference which is roughly 6 minutes.

that's a negligible difference on a trip of 405 miles.

if you're just looking for a ball park estiamte, 50 is good.

if your answering an algebra question where rounding is important, then 49 or 49.4 or 49.35 would be more acceptable, depending on how many decimal places you want to round to.
