Question 101800: A family drove to a beach resort at an average speed of 55 mph and later returned over a road at an average speed of 65 mph. Find the distance to the resort if the total driving time was 12 hours.
I only got as far as this, and not sure if I set it up right.
55(t-12)= 65t
55 t-780= 65t
780=715t

setup to make sure units are right (m/h)/m = 1/h
55mph/(x miles) + 65mph/(x miles) = 1/(12 hours)
add fractions
120/x=1/12
take inverse of both sides
x/120=12
multiply both sides by 120
x=1440miles roundtrip
The one-way trip would be 720 miles
