Pablo has a 30 mi head start ... if Ricardo is going to catch him in 5 hr, he has to make up 30/5 or 6 mi/hr
so Ricardo must go 6 mph faster or 40+6=46 mph
using equations, they meet when they have traveled the same distance ... so (40*5)+30=x*5 ... 230=5x ... 46=x
