r, rate for the propellor plane
t, time for the propellor plane

             speed time distance
JET r+160 t-4 3840
PROP r t 3840

Form the system of equations according to RT=D, basic travel rates rule.

Somee algebra steps and substitutions to solve the system.

A jet plane, flying 160 mph faster than a propeller plane, travels 3840 miles in 4 hours less time than the propeller plane takes to fly the same distance. How fast does each plane fly?
Let speed of jet, be S
Then speed of propeller plane = S – 160
We then get:
Multiply by LCD, S(S - 160), and solve for S: the speed of the jet. Then calculate: S - 160 for the speed of the propeller plane.
You should get: jet's, and propeller plane's speeds as: , and , respectively
