To find gallons per hour, divide the gallons by the hours.

That would be 1/2 of the fuel consumed in 2 hrs
Take half of 5 which is 2 and 1/2
Take half of 2/3 which is 1/3
---------------------------
Add 2 + 1/2 + 1/3
-----------------
1/2 = 3/6
1/3 = 2/6
3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6
---------------

2 and 5/6 gallons are consumed each hour
