Question 1010244: runner A crosses the starting line of a marathon and runs at an average pace of 5.6 miles per hour. Half an hour later, runner B crosses the starting line and runs at an average rate of 6.4 miles per hour. If the length of a marathon is 26.2 miles, which runner will finish ahead of the other? Explain
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Runner A will take 26.2 / 5.6 = 4.68 hours.
Runner B will take 26.2 / 6.4 = 4.09 hours.
But runner B left .5 hours later...thus his total time is only 4.59 hours and will finish ahead of runner A.
