Let time Melissa drove be T

Then time Kyle drove = 21 – T

We then get: 34T = 50(21 – T)

34T = 1,050 – 50T

34T + 50T = 1,050 

84T = 1,050

T, or time Melissa drove = , or  hours

Therefore, Kyle drove: 21 – 12.5, or  hours
