BUT 3 HOURS IF THEY WALK IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION. FIND OUT SPEED OF EACH MAN.

let a = speed of the faster man
let b - speed of the slower

When they walk toward each other their relative speeds are added
(a + b)
When they walk the same direction their relative speeds are subtracted
(a - b)

Write a distance equation for each way. time * speed = dist
9(a - b) = 27
3(a + b) = 27
Simplify; divide the first equation by 9, the 2nd equation by 3, you have;
a - b = 3
a + b = 9

2a = 12
a = 6 km/hr for the fast guy
