Question 1001817: Philip jogged from his house to a park at an average rate of 12mph where he met his friend Julia. Julia then drove him home at an average rate of 35mph. If the whole trip took 3 hours, how far is it from Philip's house to the park?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
jogging rate = 12 mph
distance be x
time jogging = x/12
car speed = 35 mph
time return by car = x/35
x/12 + x/35 = 3
(35x+12x)/12*35 = 3
47x = 3*12*35
x = 3*12*35/47
x= 26.8 miles
