Question 145327: I am having a hard time breaking down story problems, I can solve once I have the equation.
Here is my ?
Charlie and Doggie are squirrels that live in the trees in my mother's yard. Before snow covered the fall crop of acorns, Doogie gathered ten pounds more that two-thirds as many acorns as Charlie. Now, since Doogie played in the road and took himself out of the gene pool, Charlie has all thirty-five pounds of acorns they gathered to himself. How may pounds did each of them gather?

I am having problems figuring out 3 digit word problems. The problem is:
In a three digit number which is 31 times the sum of the digits, the units' digit is one half the sum of the other digits. If the digits are reversed, the new number obtained is 99 greater than the original number. Find the digits.

Question 147234: When 3 times the sum of 4 and an unknown number is subtracted from 10 times the unknown number, the results is equal to 5 time the sum of 9 and twice the unknown number. Find the number. My equation is: 3(4+x) = 5(9+2x). When I solve this I get a fraction, which does not work. HELP!!!

Question 147235: Three times the sum of 8 and twice an unknown number is equal to 4 times the sum of 3 times the unknown number and 8. Find the number. I got 2.66, but it doesn't work. Also, what does "4 times the sum of 3 times the uknown number" mean mathmatically?

Question 147348: One number is 17 more than another. If the greater number is increased by 3, the result is 5 times the smaller. What are the numbers? I have had everyone I know help me with this and we cannot work this problem. My last attempt yield me 17.75 greater number and 3.75 small.........that does not work. Help!!
