let x=1st of two numbers
3x-2= second of two numbers
x+3x-2=26
4x=24
x=6
3x-2=16
1st of two numbers=24
2nd of two numbers=16

Your equations are incorrect!! Do this as follows:

Let the first be F

Then 2nd number = 3F - 2

As both sum to 26, we get: F + 3F - 2 = 26

4F - 2 = 26

4F = 28

F, or 1st number =
