Question 979760: What should be added to thrice the rational no. -5/6 to get 5/9

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(-15/6)+x=(5/9); thrice (-5/6)=(-15/6)
multiply both sides by 18
-45+18x=10; add 45 to both sides, then divide by 18 both sides
18x=55
x=(55/18)
(-15/6)+(55/18)=(-45+55)/18=(10/18)=(5/9)
(55/18)
