Question 971274: A person jogs a certain distance at a rate of five mph and gets a ride back over the same route at forty-five mph. How far did the person jog if the round trip takes two hours?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x=hours spent jogging
2-x= time spent in car
5 mph *x = 45 mph (2-x)
5x= 90 - 45 x
50 x=90
x=1.8 hours
2-x=0.2 hours
1.8 hours at 5 mph =9 miles
0.2 hours at 45 mph=9 miles
He jogged 9 miles.
