let x be one number and x+5 be the other number, then
x +x+5 = 61
subtract 5 from both sides of the =
x +x = 56
2x = 56
divide both sides of = by 2
x = 28 and
x+5 = 28+5 = 33, therefore
our two numbers are 28 and 33
