Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
S=smaller number; L=larger number=6S+9
L-S=49 Substitute for L
6S+9-S=49 Subtract 9 from each side.
5S=40 Divide each side by 5
S=8 ANSWER 1: The smaller number is eight.
L=6S+9=6(8)+9=57 ANSWER 2: The larger number is 57.
CHECK:
L-S=49
57-8=49
49=49
