Let's call the number x, everybody's favorite variable. I have illustrated the problem and equation for you in the attached illustration. Our equation is:
-7+4x = 3+2x Add 7 on both sides and also subtract 2x on both sides, and you get:
2x= 10 Now divide both sides by 2:
x= 5
Check:
-7+4(5)= 3+2(5); -7+20= 3+10; 13=13 The answer is correct.
