L=larger number; S=smaller number
L-S=6
L=S+6
L*S=27 Substitute for L.
(S+6)(S)=27
S^2+6S=27 Subtract 27 from each side.
S^2+6S-27=0
(S+9)(S-3)
S=-9 or S=3 ANSWER: The smaller number is 3.
L=S+6=3+6=9 ANSWER 2: The larger number is 9
