Question 949558: find the three consecutive whole numbers such that the sum of the first and the third number is 21 less than three times the second number. find the numbers.
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x=first number; x+1=second; x+2=third
x+x+2=3(X+1)-21
2x+2=3x+3-21
2x+2=3x-18 Add 18 to each side.
2x+20=3x Subtract 2x from each side.
20=x ANSWER The first number is 20, the second 21, and the third 22.
CHECK
x+(x+2)=3(X+1)-21
20+22=3(21)-21
42=63-21
42=42
