Question 941752: one number is 24 more than another. the smaller number is 25% of the larger. find the numbers.
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X=24+Y
Y=0.25X
X=24+0.25X subtract 0.25X from each side
X-0.25 X=24+0.25X-0.25X
0.75X=24 divide each side by 0.75
0.75X/0.75=24/0.75
X=32
Y=.25X=.25(32)=8
Check:
X=24+Y
32=24+8
32=32
