(2s + 3) + s = 18
3s = 15
s = 5,the smaller number. Larger is 13

How do I set up these word problems?
1. The sum of two numbers is 18. The greater number is 3 less than twice the smaller one.

Let smaller number be S

Then larger = 18 - S

Therefore, 18 - S = 2S - 3

- S - 2S = - 3 - 18

- 3S = - 21
