One number is twice another number. The sum of their reciprocals is 1/4. Find the two numbers.
This is what I have so far: 1/x + 1/2x = 1/4, and then I multiplied both sides by 4x since that is the lcd and then I get a bit confused that it's not coming out right.

It should come out right the way you are doing it:

The sum of their reciprocals is 1/4.

Find the two numbers.
Multiply the above equation by 4x and you have:
4 + 2(2) = x

4 + 4 = x
:
x = 8 is one number, another number = 16
:
