so , x+y = 7.25
one number is 0.25 less than another number
so x= 0.25+y
put x=0.25+y in equation x+y =7.25
(0.25+y)+y =7.25
0.25+y+y =7.25
0.25+2y =7.25
subtract 0.25 on both sides
0.25+2y-0.25 =7.25-0.25
0.25-0.25+2y = 7.00
2y = 7
divide with 2 on both sides
2y/2 =7/2
y =3.5
so , x= 0.25+3.5
x=3.75
sso numbers are 3.75 & 3.5
