Question 896883: The sum of two numbers is 50. The larger exceeds the smaller by 22. What is the larger number?
Answer by JulietG(1812)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A + B = 50
A = B + 22
Substitute the value of A from the second equation into the first.
A + B = 50
(B+22) + B = 50
2B + 22 = 50
Subtract 22 from each side
2B = 28
Divide each side by 2
B = 14
If B is 14, then A is 14+22, or 36.
