x*y =18
x+y=9
y=9-x
x*y =18
substitute y
x*(9-x)=18
9x-x^2=18
x^2-9x-18=0
factorise
x^2-6x-3x+18=0
x(x-6)-3(x-6)=0
(x-6)(x-3)=0
x=6 OR 3
if x=6 then y =3
If x=3 then y =6
