Question 844063: If 4 times a number is increased by 16, the result is 8 less than 8 times the number. What is the number?
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = the number

4x + 16 = 8x - 8 {four times the number plus 16 is eight less than eight times the number}
16 = 4x - 8 {subtracted 4x from each side}
4x = 24 {added 8 to each side}
x = 6 {divided each side by 4}

6 is the number
